It’s jacaranda season here in Sydney, and that kinda suits Haru’s name. Not literally, it’s just the time of year when stuff blooms and all that (don’t be silly, Sydney doesn’t have proper seasons). Time for an ungodly early wakeup to go take photos? Yes please!

We got there at about 5:30 AM and started shooting. There was no one else stupid enough to be around at this time, awesome! Indeed, people didn’t start showing up until a good deal later, and we were easily done shooting by the time it got busy.

And of course there’s a few film shots. This finished up the roll of Pro400H that I started during the previous horse shoot.

These are crisp and punchy as well, even without any editing from me. Part of that is thanks to the scanning technician at the film lab, they work to get good pleasing images from the negative scans.

I think I figured out what’s going on with the apparently light leak: when I was wrapping this roll up I think it was a bit loose during unloading. The film probably got jostled while I was handling it, allowing light to get in from one end of the spool before I tightened it up properly.

Interestingly, you can see that the numbers on the backing paper have imprinted onto the negative in the first shot. This is exposure 10 if you’re using a 645-format camera, or exposure 5 in a 6×9-format camera like this one.

What’s in the bag today?

Nikon Zf with 35mm f/1.8S, 50mm f/1.8S, 85mm f/1.8S (used this one the most), Fuji GW690 III with Fuji Pro400H film. And some strobes that I never ended up using, again 😀
